We were asked to arrange Income Protection for a gentleman who enjoys rock climbing, abseiling, bouldering, scrambling, mountaineering and ice climbing at an advanced level. From an insurers perspective, these activities are unsurprisingly termed “hazardous”.
Some cover was already in place, and as part of our process we conducted a review to see if it represented good value.
Issue
Having fully explained his adventurous activities to his previous broker, he was very surprised when we pointed out his application only referred to “climbing on indoor walls only”, in other words, indoor climbing in leisure centres etc.
This significant non-disclosure (by the broker) meant the policy was seriously compromised.
Outcome
We re-arranged the existing cover and arranged new Income Protection, ensuring all activities were properly disclosed.
